The credit is smaller than it was from 2021 through 2025, and it stops completely at 400% of the poverty line. Take a 38-year-old in Franklin County, Ohio, earning $52,000: that is 326% of the poverty line, so the 2027 table expects 10.22% of income toward the benchmark plan, $443/mo. The benchmark there was $525/mo at 2026 prices, which leaves a credit of $82/mo.
Three other changes catch people out. Excess advance credit is now paid back in full at tax time, starting with 2026 returns. The monthly special enrollment period for people under 150% of the poverty line is gone. And from 2027, lawfully present immigrants get the credit only if they hold a green card or fall into a few listed groups.
Every figure here comes from the agency that sets it, with the arithmetic shown so you can check it against your own paperwork.
Questions people ask
When is open enrollment for 2027 health insurance?
On HealthCare.gov it runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Pick a plan by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1; plans picked December 16 through January 15 start February 1. States that run their own exchange set their own dates, and most of them also run into January.
Do the bigger ACA subsidies still exist?
No. The larger credits that applied from 2021 through 2025 expired, and nothing enacted through October 2026 brings them back. For 2027 the credit stops at 400% of the poverty line, which is $63,840 for one person and $132,000 for a family of four.
Is HealthInsurance.help a government site?
No. It is a private site, not connected to HealthCare.gov, CMS or any state agency. You can always apply for free at HealthCare.gov or your state's exchange.
